Alice Ward Garden, Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry

Gardens | Public Spaces
We were pleased to design a garden for Alice Ward at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, creating a peaceful, nurturing space to support the recovery and wellbeing of children receiving care for bone, joint, and muscle conditions.

Key Information

Client: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust
Location: Gobowan, Oswestry
Lead Architect: Allison Walters, Fran Keith
Riba Stages: 2-6
Services: Concept Design, Soft and Hard Landscape Design, Specification, Contract Administration
Status: In Progress
The original space was mostly inaccessible to the children particularly those in wheelchairs and beds, where they were limited to a small area of safety surface near to the building.
Thanks to the incredible support of the hospital’s League of Friends and initial designs created by a student who facilitated the start of the funding, along with local businesses, and the wider community, funding was raised to bring this project to life.
Soon the garden will be planted up full of colour and wildlife friendly trees and plants to bring the garden to life. The result will be a garden where children can spend time outdoors during their stay, surrounded by nature and movement, contributing to a more positive hospital experience.
